10th March 2014
Theme week is finally here! I have been waiting for this for weeks and being on the events management team has meant lots of planning and work behind the scenes to make sure this week goes smoothly! We made it through an eventful day today and the WOW point of entry was most certainly WOW! For the event I am the facilitator for the ICT group and this has been a great opportunity for me to work on my managing skills as I am responsible for ensuring the group follows the brief and completes all the required activities. I am also responsible for the resources and I am the group’s point of contact for any information they require. The ICT group, after the initial shock of the WOW entry wore off, is well on the way to creating a brilliant website, video and carousel activity for Wednesday when 60 children descend on the Sackville Street Building expecting to be at the Commonwealth Games! The other teams have been working equally as a hard on their briefs and have come up with some inventive ideas for Wednesday. Looking forward to two more exciting, fun-filled days this week before the daunting FPP arrives!

This experience of working with an events management group has been hugely beneficial for me as I have had the opportunity to collaborate with peers to meet a shared goal and create a wonderful event for theme week. Additionally, it has also been an opportunity for me to manage other adults and refine my management and teamwork skills.

Today is the last day of the taught course and I can't believe it is nearly the end! No idea where the time has gone and now there are only around three more months left until I can call myself a teacher! Well a NQT, but I am sure that year will also fly by! Meeting my AT for the first time today and I have prepared a list of questions to ask. I will be teaching year 2 which is going to be a big change from year 6 and year 4 and it will be quieter to have a smaller class compared to the class of 60 I had in year 4 due to an open plan classroom. I have not had much experience in KS1 and so feeling a little nervous, but teaching is about learning all the time and I am looking forward to meeting these new challenges head on.
The pressure is also on now to find a job and I had my first school visit yesterday which really brought it home that this is really happening now. I intend on getting my personal statement written and refined to a T as things are going to be very busy during FPP so it is time to be sending out some applications!
