Interactive whiteboard (IWB)
Interactive whiteboards have become a presence in almost every classroom in the country. They are an invaluable addition to the classroom and in the last few weeks I have learnt the many uses of the IWB and all the ways in which they can be use effectively. In the first workshop on IWB I learnt about the basic aspects such as text recognition and drawing shapes. In the second workshop I was able to get to grips with all the different tools that can be used. I also learnt about the activity builder which allows the user to create their own resources using the Smart software on the IWB.
As well as this, the IWB can also be used by children as there are a number of interactive games available that can also be played by children on the IWB.
However, it is important to note that although the IWB has endless possibilities, it is not in any way a replacement for good teaching. It is easy to get carried away when using it and this may distract from good teaching as constantly attempting to use elaborate resources on the IWB may take away from delivering a lesson effectively.
Below are some images on my first attempts at using the IWB and Smart Notebook.

The video below is another example of the many uses of the interactive whiteboard, as a music video was displayed on it during a music lesson on the P.G.C.E taught course. During my practice I have also made use of the interactive whiteboard to show children videos.
Smart Notebook
The first piece of software I was required to become familiar with on the P.G.C.E course was Smart Notebook. This is an invaluable piece of software which is used on a daily basis by schools and it is projected onto a interactive whiteboard.
Smart Notebook has an endless amount of possibilities and is a useful tool for delivering lessons as well as enabling lessons to be interactive and engaging.
The document below is my first ever attempt at using Smart Notebook.

I have since used the IWB on a daily basis throughout GPP and found it a hugely useful tool to not only present ideas and subject knowledge to the children, but also a means of keeping the pace of a lesson through the use of interactive timers. I also found that having children out to use the interactive whiteboard themselves was beneficial as it kept them engaged and more willing to participate in the lesson.
i intend on continuing to use the IWB in lessons and Smart Notebook to prepare for lessons and I feel that as I become more familiar with the software I will be able to try more adventurous activities using the activity builder.
