I have been exploring the use of green screen in the classroom and how green screening works. For pupils this is a engaging medium for learning and a motivational factor in developing their group work, collaboration and literacy skills.
What is green screening?
A green screen allows children to fllm people or objects or to take photos and then overlay these images onto a selected background. Green screening has become easier to achieve in recent years as now only a camera or iPad, microphone, green fabric for a backdrop and software is needed. Thus, it is proving to be a very popular choice of ICT in schools with more and more investing in the equipment needed.

During theme week I was a part of the events management team and I was the facilitator for the ICT group. The team pulled together and created a wonderful website, which can be accessed here, and video for the event. The team used a number of different ICT programs, including iPads, Bee-Bots, AudioBoo, Twitter, Website design, TouchCast and green-screening. I witnessed the group using the green screen to film the video and create the special effects. Have a look here to see the video.
After having read and watched the video on the website above and witnessing the results of green screening during theme week i am eager to try green screening in my future practice. During the event in theme week the children who came from the school were excited about using the green screen and they were distracted by it even when they were working in the other curricular groups! This gave me added motivation to use green screening in the classroom to create exciting cross-curricular learning experiences for the children.
