Digital Photography
Digital photography has become an everyday part of life and now it is easy to take a snappy photo of anything and everything you see within a blink of an eye. This is why I feel children should be taught not only how to take photographs using different devices, but also how to edit these photographs to improve them or to create effects.
I am confident in the use of digital photography and the use of different devices with which to take photographs. I have taken numerous photographs, such as when on holiday, and edited these using Microsoft Picture Manager and Photoshop.
During the first week of the P.G.C.E I had the opportunity to visit Manchester Museum and I took a photograph of a spider which had been found in some bananas and had travelled all the way from Brazil. I was amazed at how carefully the spider had been preserved and how it had managed to find its way to Manchester! I then uploaded this photo onto my website. As you browse through my website you will find a number of photographs I have taken, especially in the blog section. All of these photographs have been edited in some way.

During GPP children in in my year 4 class created posters for a time team theme week project about the history of their school and area using digital photography. They used the internet to research and find images from the past of their school and the surrounding area. We then used Google maps to plot the route we would need to take to find the correct area and set of on walks to recreate the photographs. Some of these photographs contained people and some were photos of landscapes, but each was recreated. The children really enjoyed both the walks and recreating the images and it was wonderful to see them use these photographs to spot the things that had changed and those that had remained the same after 100+ years.
Digital photography is now quick, easy and cheap to do. Photos can be instantly printed out or uploaded onto websites and blogs and they can be used across the whole curriculum to enhance learning.
